Q: Do hens need a rooster in order to make eggs?

A: Nope! Hens lay eggs all on their own regardless of if there is a rooster present or not.

Q: But you have roosters - will I end up with a baby chick in my eggs??

A: Nope! Even if the rooster fertilizes the eggs, the hen must sit on them for 21 days in order for them to incubate and hatch a baby chick. Our eggs are collected daily - clean and easy using our Best Nest Boxes. We keep a few roosters with our flock mainly to offer some additional protection from predators. Roosters are great at alerting the hens to take cover as well as calling them over to get first dibs on good treats like bugs and veggies.
